Sean Thunder, MIACP – Psychotherapist

Initially with a background in industrial relations, at the age of fifty-two Seán changed career and went on to study Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy at NUI Maynooth, IICP Tallaght and MTU. He was awarded his degree and accreditation from IACP and has been counselling and supporting clients for almost ten years.

Seán says: “I have found in my practice, having knowledge of the WRC (Workplace Relations Commission), the Working Time Act(s), employer/employee relations and employment contracts can be very helpful in dealing with work related stress and anxiety. Giving my clients some initial clarity can bring peace of mind, thus allowing the therapeutic relationship to develop and healing to take place”. Bullying, intimidation, and toxic work environments can cause chronic stress and may contribute to the development or exacerbation of anxiety and depression, burnout, impaired concentration and decision making, sleep disturbance, strained relationships, decreased job satisfaction, physical health issues and increased risk of substance abuse. Constant pressure, unrealistic expectations, and a hostile work environment can also contribute to these mental health conditions.

Seán also specializes in problem gambling and gambling addiction. Problem gambling is today an evolving epidemic in Ireland, across all age demographics. In addition to this, young people addicted to gaming and gambling are presenting at an alarming rate in all mental health services throughout the country. Problem gambling can be the most secretive addiction in the sense that every person now has access to gambling services, apps or games 24/7 through their personal devices. Sean has experience providing professional support to those with gambling dependencies as well as their partners, family, friends or colleagues.

Each client comes with their unique set of requirements and preferences. Understanding and addressing these specific needs is essential to provide tailored solutions and exceptional service. It requires a personalized approach, attentive listening, and a willingness to adapt strategies to meet those individual needs effectively.
